As many of you know my parents are in Mongolia building a hotel. Naadam is the big festival held each year. This year was the celebration of 800 years since Gengis Khan… Photos of the festival can be seen here.

Today, many thanks to our friend ET, the manager of one of HK’s shipping companies we got to tour a real container ship. From bow to stern, crows nest to bilges, we saw it all. Our tour guide a lovely Indian fellaw by the name of Mahesh a 19 year old Cadet serving his apprentice on board the ship. He gave us the grand tour of the ship and explained what every valve, pump and pulley was for. The Ship “Hong Kong Star” is 179m in length and weights 22,000 tons and carries 1780 TEU…
A very informative afternoon. Unfortunately for us the weather was poor, very hazy and the light was just not in our favour, however, ET has promised to take us again when the next ship comes into port in a few weeks time, this one will also be a much bigger ship… So very soon we will once again be adding to our collection of Hong Kong Container Ship Stock Photos available in our Alamy library…

A bunch of hippsters on Lamma Island came up with a great idea they want everyone to turn out their lights on the 8th of August at 8pm to protest the worsening air pollution in HK. I think this is a great idea and am going to support it. We have printed one of their posters and will be putting it in the lift of our building. Now very curious to see how many people especially the big compainies in HK acutally support this and turn out their lights. One thing that also will be interesting to see is that the daily “LIGHT SHOW” from the 32 buildings in Central goes off at, well you guessed it 8pm. Will these hipsters be able to get the Tourism Board to play along with their idea. For more info visit http://lightsout.com.hk/
