This past week has been great. My mother bless her, has been visiting us from the far away reaches of Mongolia, where they are on contract building a hotel. Having Mum in town is a sure excuse to visit all my favorite restaurants in one week. Last night it was time to visit an old favorite, Cafe Siam, on the corner of Lyndhurt and the escalator. We ordered the usual Pad Thai, Cat Fish Salad, Morning Glory and for a treat, why not – the garlic prawns – oh and can’t forget a jug of strawberry marg’s. When the food arrived, I dished out like a good son does. One prawn for Mom, one for girl friend and then one for me… It was then that I started to dig around in the mound of garlic and peper to discover that for $158 you get exactly 3 prawns, of medium size. So I called the waiter over and asked, “what happens if there were four of us at dinner tonight”, oh that is the standard portion – 3 prawns. Well I have one thing to say to anyone who is thinking of going to Cafe Siam for a Prawn dinner… Skip it! Actually while I am at it I must just say this, and don’t take me too serious because some of this is just the fact that I have eaten there sooooo many times, but Cafe Siam just ain’t what it used to be…
